We found this dune buggy a long whole back. It was blue (faded)
metallic flake, with a smashed in front hood and ...well I could go
on. Basically we paid 800 bucks for it, in ran but not for long the
would just quit. During 2002-2003 somewhere my ol' man and I started
restoring it. Here are some pictures of the finished product. This
dune buggy is so awesome, I can't begin to express how much I love this
car. This car has taken me on more back roads .... seasonal roads
are especially fun!! I've had it on 2 wheels on a couple of occasions . It also likes mud , more then the owner likes cleaning the mud I might add
The dune buggy has been completely restore from ground up. We
sand basted the whole frame , painted it . Dad rebuilt the motor from
3 different 1600 motors we found in fields. The body required
extensive work being as it hit many a tree. I actually drove it quite
a while in high school around the back roads until it would like clock
work break down ...and pushed back to head quarters. The
transmission was sent out and fixed. It had a common VW habit of
kicking out of gear unless you held it there. The wiring was redone
b/c the old harness was in ROUGH shape.
Things it needs now around 3 years after the resto are:
1. Some new seats , the plastic bucket seats has started to crack.
Also around 45 min is probably the longest you can be comfortable in
them. Something with a bit more padding would be nice 2. The rims are the original keystones that we bought the buggy with. I would like to get some descent rims someday 3. The front has devolved a shake. I'm not sure exactly what is causing it, but it needs to get done.
It gets registered and passes inspection and I have had it on the road for 3 summers in a row. Allways fun come May the first few rides have a bit of a bite in the air at 55 mph
